Learning and development are the concepts that are always attached with the human being. There are various theories and concepts have been put forward by many theorists and philosophers. The psychology of child development and learning strategies are two closely linked concepts. The aim of this paper is to discuss learning strategies and information processing from variegated aspects.

Learning Strategies: Memory and Attention

Most of times a student inability to pay attention to a subject or topic can be one of the most important reason behind the deficit of memory. Students, who remain unable to pay their attention on a given subject or topic face immense difficulty in storing and recalling miscellaneous information. A teacher must know and observe students who are incapable of pay attention on a given topic. After recognizing such students, a teacher must alter either the tools or techniques with the help of which he or she can get the attention of the student or should devise different ways to get the attention of the students. An instructor is not only obliged to identification and implementation of the learning strategies to meet the variegated needs of the students, but he or she is also responsible for creating knowhow in a student so that they can use these strategies on their own (Smith, 2003). Students who face difficulties in paying attention to a topic for a longer span for such students strategies should be devised. These strategies which would helpful for them to increase the period of attention and it would help them in memorizing lessons (Ann, 1992). One of the ways through which benefits can be provided to students who face difficulties in paying attention is by involving them in meaningful and constructive activities. In addition to this, a predictable structure of the classroom, and clearly mentioned directions would aid in illustrating expectations of students. There are various techniques through which teachers can make the learning easy. Such techniques involve inquiry based learning in which a teacher continuously ask questions and learning through discussion. Through these techniques, a teacher can keep the student engaged and involved (Heward, 2009). There are three different types of memories. These three different types of memory include short term memory, long term memory and working memory. These levels of memories are important to understand because they are particularly linked with the attention. Students who go to pre-school possess the same short term memory just like adults do. In the short term memory, the information is stored for more than twenty five seconds or 15 chunks of meaningful data. The process through which an individual transfer the information from short term memory to long term memory is called working memory (Teresa, 2009).
