Managing Holistically

Introduction

The holistic approach in management is a systems thinking approach of managing resources in an organization. It looks into all factors such as the production, financials, sustainability and overall improvement of the whole organization. It was originally established by Allan Savory who made sure that actions taken are economical, socially viable and harmless to the environment in the short and long term.

Holistic framework

The holistic framework is basically a guide to decision making which helps in understanding what people value most and develop resources that can support their vision. All actions are accordingly tested to see if they achieved their holistic goal. The planning and feedback are vital for the success of decisions that are made in a holistic approach in strategic management of an organization. The holistic management is a management approach that shows what makes a certain process work and why.

The holistic approach is set of practices within the model that help individuals to move consistently breathing those principals. It is the understanding, assessing and working with human and adapting to the changes most efficiently. The research in this paradigm has showed that although holistic view seems very basic people feel that returning to practicing this way has led to results being achieved in an organization. The process of decision making can be a difficult task and humans are good at following one thought at a time. The writing it down gives a better picture of its level of importance and priority in relation to other issues in the organization.

Discussion

The systems employed in an organization use structural interrelationships to influence environmental variables like the population, resources, ideas and knowledge (Senge, 1990).

Structural Relationship

The structural relationships are informal but organized entities in the organizational chart that can influence the behavior over time. The structure follows a particular process and flows according to the perception that the organization carries. The organization has the power to change the structure of this relationship and this is the holistic approach to strategic management. This is different from the strategic management approach which looks at the decisions that implement a plan and achieve the desired organizational goals as holistic strategic management achieves organizational goals through interrelationships of variables.

System Thinking

The system thinking is the way of doing things which are regarded as a system and are great influencers of one another as a whole. For instance, the system of a nature will include elements of air, water, plants, animals and sun, whereas in organizations the system consists of people, structures and processes that work together and make an organization work in a better way. This thinking helps in problem solving where each problem is viewed as part of the overall system. The holistic system is collection of interdependent or briefly relating parts. These parts are also systems which are related with other system and work holistically to achieve the goals of the organization.
