Introduction

The aim and objective of this essay is to discuss and analyse the role of a Mathematics teacher who conducts a learning walk to find out the areas of development. The essay is divided in many stages which define about the action plan and the strategies that are being put in by a math teacher in order to instil better learning of this subject among the students.

Stage 1

It is clear that academic performance is related to processes learning. In addition, Alonso et al. Mathematics form an important part of the education system. The students in our school learn maths at their early stages for enhancing their mathematical skills, which can be utilised in their future education, and career life (Marshall, 2013). Thus, it becomes worthwhile to evaluate the learning walk which gives a snapshot of the teaching taking place in a school, and its impact on the learning process. In this essay, I claim to evaluate the maths learning walk by explaining the journey of experience. The issues faced while carrying out the learning walk by me are also identified in the essay followed by conclusion at the end.

Learning walk may be described as the brief class-room visit which is based on research for provision of opportunity for the teachers and principals so as to make them aware of the learning strategies, the degree of engagement and interactions by the students (Kachur et al., 2009). The process of learning walk in my school begins by briefly organizing the team comprising of head teacher, deputy head teacher, assistant head teacher and maths lead teacher. The teaching staffs were informed of the day and time two weeks prior the learning walk took place .The focus was math's as the data revealed downward trend. It was agreed that the team would be split into two teams - one would visit key stage 1 & other would visit key stage 2 and spend approximately 10 minutes in each classroom. The working walls, books scrutiny, pupil discussions and class talk would be used to capture data.
