METHODS-TIME MEASUREMENT

Methods-time measurement

Abstract

There are many alternatives available for improving productivity. Work motion and time study is one way to achieve it. In this research, time study which is work measurement is done in order to standardize the working time especially for QC (quality control) jobs in Textiles Manufacturing Company. In addition, the work motions also have been given an attention. The motion study at QC is done to improve job methods. This research of the work motion and time study has its objective to eliminate unnecessary QC work, to design improved methods and procedures which are most effective, require least effort and are suited to the person who uses them. Moreover, it provides methods of measuring work determining performance or productivity for QC department.

Methods-Time Measurement

Introduction of the Research

In this study, is clearly shown that work methods and time measurement can be implemented in manufacturing processes for increasing company productivity. Traditionally, the manufacturing process has been concern with how people perform their jobs. Two areas have been received considerable attention. The first is determining the best way to perform a job. This determination is commonly called methods analysis. The second is measuring the time required for a job to be completed using the best method. This measurement has most often been concerned with time measurement.

This research involves the performance of worker based on the jobs and how work methods relate to productivity improvement. By using the process charts, series of actions need to be identified that those activities should or could be improved. Every time an element of a job can be eliminated, combined or shortened, the worker will be able to produce more in the same time period. This improvement will make the work easier to perform. This type of improvement translates to an increase in productivity (Andrich, 2005).

Time measurement is being done in this research to measure the present level of performance, which is the productivity of those involved in creating goods and providing services in the company. Time measurement involve measurement where it is use to measure work. The result of time study is the time that a worker suited to the job and fully trained in the specified method that will need to perform the job if the worker works at a normal or standard time. In addition to determining current productivity levels, time measurement is also used to build wage incentive plans, estimate cost, schedule production jobs and for other planning and control ...
