Introduction

Obesity and diabetes has become major health problem in United States. Many research studies have found that obesity is the cause of many diseases. It has also found it to be one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality all over the world and in the United States. Among all the countries, US have the highest obesity rate. In spite of the concentrations of the health profession, and the considerations of media and educational campaigns about the health hazards affects of obesity, there is marked increase in the prevalence of obesity and it has doubled in the past four decades.

The Centers for Diseases Control (2010) has found that 35.7 percent of American adults and 17 percent of American children as having obesity problems. The change in the life style of the people has made the people limited to their activities. People are less involved in physical activities and they take less proper sleep and more over, the food that people is more focused on quantity rather than quality.

Hypothesis

HO: Obesity is a major contributor to the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus, and the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in the U.S. is increasing at an alarming rate.

HA: Obesity is not a major contributor to the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus, and the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in the U.S. is not increasing at an alarming rate.

Research Question

There is strong relation found between obesity and diabetes along with hypertension and heart diseases. Many studies have shown that obesity and weight increases are linked with increased risk of diabetes. A study showed that the people who are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, of them, about 90% are also diagnose with obese.
