The Olympic Games was a sporting event that was held from 27 July to 12 August 2012 in the city of London, United Kingdom. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) chose among nine nominations which would go to a final vote to decide the venue of the games, which was provided by a group of experts. The event was organized by two entities: the Organizing Committee and the Project Office Olympics (ODA by its acronym in English). The organizing committee was responsible for planning, as well as raising the funds needed to carry it out. It was also responsible for the implementation of the opening and closing ceremonies, the Olympic torch relay, the participation of non-profit organizations, the promotion of pets and the festival in 2012.

The committee chairman was former Olympic champion Sebastian Coe. Meanwhile, the Project Office was responsible for carrying out the works necessary materials for the development of the Olympic Games, as well as transport and services for optimal functioning. There was also support from other agencies: the Olympic Board that was responsible for the coordination and inspection of the games, The Nation and Regions Groups, which ensured the involvement of people in the UK in the games, the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson , which helped ensure that Londoners benefit event received, the Department of Culture, Communications and Sports, Finance Manager of the games and sponsorship of ODA, and the official sponsors of both international and UK.

The organizing committee made a plan for sustainability that included five strategic areas, which were: climate change, waste, biodiversity, inclusion and healthy living. The first two included the detailed study of the carbon footprint generated by the Olympics and Paralympics, for what is considered the first research of its kind in the history of the Olympics, also sought to organize the multi-sport event with 'zero waste' and recycling targets comprised of more than 90% of the waste from construction and demolition of buildings.
