Introduction

The company that has been selected for this topic is Petroleum Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited which is even referred as Petrotrin. It is a large national company that is has employees around 5,240. The company drills for undefined crude oil from beneath the earth's surface both on land, and, offshore. The oil is transported via pipelines to the refinery where it is refined in various products. These products are sold nationally and exported to international destinations. The refinery has a capacity to refine 40,000 barrels of crude daily. The problem that needs to be addressed in this topic is refining operations. It will cover the issues of Operations Management and will also highlight the importance of TQM (Total Quality Management. It will be seen that whether the company is handling their operations in an effective way or not. The solutions and recommendations will be provided to the company for handling their operations in a proper way. Therefore, all issues related to Operations Management will be discussed in detail.

The major problem in Petrotrin

This discussion will focus on the logistics problems that come forth as a result of mishandling of operations management in the firm. For this purpose, the discussion will make use of the Petrotrin to function on the basis of a case study of sorts. Undeniably, mishandling is one of the most fundamental problems of logistics. Since, it is an oil company and has large scale operations in Trinidad and Tobago, so they cannot afford to have any sort of carelessness in their work. The occurrence of one mistake can causes lots of problems for the customers. The company is not having domestic operations, but they are also carrying out their tasks in a global market. The oil refinery companies give their best efforts to handle their operations in an effective way. This is the reason why the subject of Operations Management has gained a lot of value these days. There is a course of Operations Management taught in the universities to the students to provide them maximum knowledge regarding this course.

The major problem, which the company, is facing is the timely supply of their products to their customers in various parts of the world. Although, the production of items is taking place at a large scale but the problems are occurring in the distribution area.
