Introduction

The purpose of a personal development plan (PDP) is to implement a number of improvements. But the PDP is more than a plan. This is actually a contract you enter into with you and possibly your employer. You agree to take steps and actions to your personal development. This plan can be brief or largely developed, the way you want. But in any case contains the following elements: purpose, action, results, planning, assessment and possible support.

For many people who are serious about success, goal setting is a must. However, many do not set goals for the area of their personal development. People normally have financial goals, health goals, career/professional goals, spiritual goals and relationship goals. However, they have no goals in regards to their personal development. This is not ideal because as you get more and more caught up in achieving your goals, you will unconsciously neglect learning & improving further. For this developing a personal development plan is essential. One must design a personal development plan to ensure effective development in career, education and relationships. The plan will demonstrate an evaluation of an individual's level of skills and will identify their strength and their need for development to ensure success in their academic and professional field (Boud, 2001, 18).

Skills Analysis

As a learner, I have evaluated through self assessment and SWOT analysis that I am very good regarding self-awareness. I am sensitive and open to others who are different. My self-awareness has increased after various group activities. I always approach other people first and introduce myself and easily make them at ease with myself. My colleagues and acquaintance have always found it easy to approach me and ask my help whenever they want to.

Another effective skill is the Information and communications technology skills which have proved very effective for my studies and broader business context. This skill has developed with the help of the new system of studies and the regular group presentation, information sharing, communications, technology level. This has enhanced my technological skills and has helped me in becoming more tech-savvy (Northedge, 1990, 44).

My personal management skills have also developed. Time management and planning, motivating myself and using initiatives have helped me in improving my performance. I utilize my time effectively and make sure that I always arrive 15 minutes early to the lectures, meetings and other activities. I manage my assignments and activities as per a pre-designed time schedule which helps me to complete my tasks beforehand.

My problem solving and decision-making skills have also developed and enhanced. Having completed my assignment on finance and strategy actually improved my ability to make decisions especially in the business world and how to solutions and how to offer a recommendation. Cognitive skills are essential for any individual. Having a sense of belonging, associating, and class group assignment actually improved my critical thinking, analysis and synthesis.
