Task 1

Evaluate Approaches to Self-Managed Training

SML (Self Managed Learning) presents a management development approach which equips managers with the necessary tools to achieve the results in practical work scenarios. It enables them to control the pace, processes and content of their personal learning. The Self-Managed Training happens along with a group of managers and all of them are responsible for their collective progress. Training programs might be structured or unstructured; structured programs can avail the facility of an Adviser.

There are a number of approaches to Self-Managed Learning, including

Deep Approach

In this approach, individuals are intentionally available at some place to learn something. When they encounter with a new idea, theory or information they are critically analyzing it. In the same way, they are also relating it to the past information. They are also relating different concepts to everyday life. Usually, this kind of learning occurs when an individual wants to solve an unfamiliar problem (Laird et al. 2005, p.n.d.).

Surface Approach

In this approach, individuals are learning due to the motive of gaining some advantage e.g. the students are learning this because of getting grades, marks etc. The majority of people are learning for repeating the past concepts of ideas.

Strategic Approach

In this approach, individuals are using different tactics, devices and materials to learn. They are learning this because of achieving some high-end desire. Additionally, people are taking different sources.

Propose Ways in which Lifelong Learning in Personal and Professional Contexts could be encouraged

Long term studying is all about ongoing studying on an individual basis that could lead to the development of expertise. It is a continuous process in which an individual learns voluntarily and there is no interference by any external force (European Student Forum 2007, p.n.d.). For the long term, there are various ways through which an individual can remain in the lifelong process of learning, such as social inclusion, knowledge work, personal learning environment and outside education systems. On the other hand, for professional learning, the ways through which learning could be ensured as a lifelong process include learning new basic skills, valuing the learning and getting help from the ICT.
