Introduction

Leadership is the process through which leaders can persuade their team members to achieve organisational objectives. In any organisation, Leadership is a very powerful tool to influence others (Sadler, 2003, pp.5-6). Management is the process that involves working with others to achieve organisational objectives. Planning, organising, influencing, controlling and leading are the functions of Management (Williams, 2009).

The essay aims to discuss the principles of leadership and management that may include; the characteristics, responsibilities and duties of a Manager, different leadership management learning styles, methods of communication, team work and planning etc have covered in this.

Characteristics of Manager

To be curious

A manager must always be curious to know about how things work, when and why and what other perceive or think about those things. He must asks why things are working in this way; if going wrong; try to figure them out and improve them by making different strategies.

Vision for the betterment

A manager must be a goal or objective oriented, must use its resources and skills to achieve the vision of organisation. He must has an ability to clear vision of the organisation to other members working in the team

Ability to communicate

A manager must communicate effectively with his team members; two-way communication is the best way to communicate. It is essential for the Manager to must letting his team members know about their performance and team's performance.

Organised personality

A manager must possess an organised personality. An organised manager is better able to deal with the issues raise in the surroundings of the organisation. The irrational nature of manager allows him to tackle various issues at the same time.

Encouraging the Teamwork

A manager must encourage the teamwork that may raise the morale of team members and makes them more productive (Corsini, 2005, pp. 16).

Set SMART Objectives

Without clear objectives, organisations cannot be succeeded. Long-term goals of the organisations can be achievable by setting the objectives. Objectives must be SMART; specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely. Setting SMART objectives may involve a research process, decision and evaluating phase, measurement of objectives and realignment of the objectives.

Objectives must be précised and very well defined.

Objectives must define when the task is going to be completed.

Achievable

Objectives must be easily achievable by utilizing your skills and capabilities.

Realistic

Objectives must be sensible and real to achieve.

Objectives that must have a clear deadline or must be achievable on time.
