Reflective Practice

Introduction

This assignment is about utilizing an identified and justified model of reflective practice, and illustrating a work based learning experience. I am currently working voluntarily with a church in the black ethnic sub-Saharan communities teaching them about sexual health. The idea is to make them aware of sexual transmission disease including HIV/AIDS. Additionally I am also teaching them the side effect of FGM related sexual health. The concept that I have identified from my reflection and have chosen for the literature search is intercultural communication. The following pages will include a literature search on the issue of intercultural communication. It will include the literature that will be identified as suitable for reviewing the literature. It will also include the core concepts about intercultural communication and the core issues related to it.

Discussion

I have been working voluntarily with a church. The church is located in the black ethnic sub Saharan communities. I am working on teaching them about sexual health, making them aware of the diseases which are sexually transmitted from one partner to another. I am also teaching them the side effects that are associated with the Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and the sexual health after it. There are many concept issues that are related to teaching and working with the people of a community which is different from your own. Teaching the black people from the Sub Saharan community. There are many barriers that are related with such a teaching and experience. One of the core issues that I faced during my experience with these people was the intercultural communication. When people from a different culture and different communities are taught about a topic or a problem, the intercultural communication comes into play.

Sources of Literature Research

I will be using all kinds of secondary sources for my literature research. They will, however be, all credible sources. Most of the literature that I will be reviewing will be the books of the famous authors. The search has been undertaken to understand the concept of intercultural communication. For a source to be credible enough to gain an entry into the literature research, it needs to be available on the credible websites and other sources.

Cross cultural communication is also sometimes used synonymously with intercultural communication (Wiseman, 2003, pp. 191-208). In the sense of cross cultural communication, it seeks to understand that how people from different communities and cultures communicate, act and perceive the happenings and the world around them. There are a number of people in the intercultural communication who argue that cultural background determines how an individual will encode a message that is to be transmitted to the other person (Pinto, ...
