Abstract

This research paper presents moral issues of the same sex marriages according to different religions such as Christianity, Islam and Judaism. This paper gives the ideas about the same sex marriage issues and, why this is not allowed in different divine religions.

Introduction

Same sex marriage is also known as the gay marriage or equal marriage and, is considered as the marriage between two persons having same sex or gender identity. It is difficult to recognize the same sex marriage at legal background. At the time of 2001, eleven countries allowed same sex couples to spend lives together through a legal marriage bond (Shapiro, 2012). There were several bills proposed for the same sex marriage at that time, and there were certain revolutions and protest in favor of same sex marriages of gays and lesbians. Legalizing the same sex marriages is the issue in different societies from religious point of views.

Discussion

Several religions has their own believes about the same sex marriage as there are no clear past evidences of same sex marriages in history (Shapiro, 2012). Same sex marriages are performed in a civil ceremony secular societies and, different religious groups practice same sex marriages. The major groups promoting same sex marriages such as; Quakers, Episcopalians, United church of Canada and, Conservative Jews. Several studies have shown that several countries are supporting the same sex marriage with the development of education and knowledge and, also support marriages of all races, ethnicities, ages, religions and statuses.

Issues

There were debates about the same sex marriage since 2001, that same sex couples should allow to enter into the marriage. Some authors and researchers agree that the same sex marriage is the human right but for many others it is still the issue of legal, moral and religious settings.

There are common issues in the same sex marriage such as; upbringing the child. Several studies have shown that the gay and lesbian parents are as good as heterogeneous parents but, it is not considered as the right act because, gay and lesbians cannot have their own baby and, they have to adopt a baby from other parents. They will not show much love and care to that child as compared to the original parents. According to the scientific literature, there are less evidences of gay and lesbian parents showing love to their child or adopting a child from different parents.

Adoption

Same sex marriage law also allows gay and lesbian parents to adopt a child and, in this case child may be adopted from other parents or may be a child of one of the partner in the sex. Different states who allow same sex marriages also allow adoption except Portugal.
