Introduction

Sex and love in Making Love is the central theme of the story written by Tom Inglis. Making Love appears to be the biographical writing of Tom Inglis' life with Aileen MacKeogh. Aileen is the protagonist of the story, and Inglis is the writer and illustrator of Aileen's preferences and personality in leading a life. Inglis follows Aileen's defined and explained notions of life as she is the person in charge in their married relationship. It is Aileen who proposes everything, and Inglis is always happy to follow as per the requirements of Aileen. Leading a sexual and loving life is the perceived happy life for Aileen and she made Inglis to learn about this fact and lead his life accordingly. Inglis faced a number of issues in exploring and comprehending the term love and associated aspects of the term. He was able to acknowledge the importance of love and sex with Aileen's support who was always there for the writer's assistance. Inglis was very happy with his beloved wife when he listened to the tragic news of her breast cancer. He saw her deteriorating state day by day and was unable to take hold of the situation. She died in the year 2005, and he was able to write and publish about her till 2012.

Discussion

The story revolves around the characters of Aileen and Inglis and their married relationship with one another. The writer also informs about his whole family consisting of three children, out of which, his third child, Luke died because of fortuitously falling from his babysitter's lap while jerking forward. Luke was only nine months old when he died all of a sudden. This accident made Aileen and Inglis upset about their well established lives and because of being shattered psychologically at their son's death, they gave each other support to overcome their grief. When Aileen was finally in the hands of death, Inglis was facing the situation of an overwhelming loss. He considered himself ineligible to soothe Aileen and whatever, he could do was to take care of her liking and disliking. He soothed her with love and sex (Dwyer, 2012).

Aileen got dispossessed of her hair and breast because of breast cancer. The deadly ailment took away all her vigour and energy. She tried everything to resist pain but was helpless. Inglis knew about her pain and suffering but had no opportunity but to weep over her situation. At the age of forty seven, she dispossessed her hair and breast and lost her beauty. However, for Inglis, she was still beautiful and graceful because according to Inglis love does not depend on beauty. Beauty resides in heart and in relationship that people enjoy being with one another. Inglis loved Aileen and regarded her most beautiful creature of the world.
