Thesis Statement:

The scientists have discovered various ways in order to explore the sleep cycles of the individuals. Electroencephalograph has supported the scientific research in understanding the sleeping cycles and stages of sleeps.

Supporting Point: Electric inventions have enabled scientists to study sleep in way that it has not been discovered before. In 1950, an experiment was conducted on Eugene Aserinsky a student to discover rapid eye movement (Ernest, 2012).

Sleep Stages which have been identified with the help of equipment

Non rapid eye movement which is known as quiet sleep (William, 2012).

Rapid eye movement which is known as active sleep (William, 2012).

Supporting Point: the stage 1 is known as drifting in and out of sleep.

Body Characteristics during Stage 1 (Sparrow & Thurston, 2010).

During this phase, there is high theta brain waves amplitude is secreted, which is one of the very slow brain waves. This period of sleep is comprised of a very short time (about 5-10 minutes), and if one awakes someone during that period determines that the person was not asleep (Sparrow & Thurston, 2010). .

Stage II The second phase of sleep has a duration is of 20 minutes which starts after a huge bursts of rapid brain waves also known as sleep spindles as a result of which the temperature of the body starts to fall with a slowing heart rate (Hartmann, 2012).

When sleep enters stage 2 body starts producing rapid rhythmic brain activity which are known as sleep spindles.

The body starts relaxing as muscled relax, heart rate goes down and temperature starts decreasing (Simor et al, (2011).
