Importance of Strategic Leadership Function

Strategic leadership presents direction and vision for the achievement and development of an organization. The Strategic Leaders are the important individuals that help the organizations in developing successfully while fulfilling the respective aims and objectives at the same time. The good Strategic Leaders are needed at every step of the organization and needs them to successfully implement their ideas in the business operations. (Merritt 2008, 80)

A large number of theories have been carried out in the past that takes into account different Strategic Leadership theories and analyze them in different perspectives. The past literature on the Strategic Leadership theories shows that these theories do not agree on a single characteristic important for the Strategic Leaders in their operations. Instead they see number of characteristics important for the Strategic Leaders. (Yukl 2012, 41)

Cognitive Analytical Skills Necessary for Strategic Leadership

Strategic leadership denotes one's capability to convey a strategic mission for any organization and to persuade and motivate others to get to that mission. Loyalty, wider perspective, Motivation, Compassion, Self-control, Social skills, Articulacy and Ethics are necessary for strategic leadership. Strategic Leadership is a complex subject. Everyone has an opinion, and new theories (including mine) pop up on bookshelves every day. But, one truth is undeniable, and that is that Strategic Leadership effort must ultimately be focused on value-creating activities if an organization is to survive and thrive. (Adair 2012, 36)

If cognitive analytical skills are not found in the Strategic Leaders, then they should not be called true Strategic Leaders. Cognitive analytical skills are supposed to be quite nacessary. The Strategic Leaders that possess cognitive analytical skills are usually enthusiastic and highly devoted to their profession. Moreover, the Strategic Leaders with cognitive analytical skills have charm in their personality. Cognitive analytical skills are possessed by the Strategic Leaders that have a clear vision towards their goal and strictly follow their mission in order to achieve certain goals. The Strategic Leaders possessing cognitive analytical qualities are usually respectful towards their followers and trust them. (Cannella 2008, 14)

The Consequences of Bad, Ineffective or Negligent Strategic Leadership

Strategic Leaders in the organizations have many responsibilities such as setting the direction of organization and making employees aligned with it. It is the job of strategic leaders to support Training, developing and providing directions to their teams in order to attain the final goal of the organization.

There are numerous consequences that may arise in the organizational Strategic Leadership and these issues hinder in the effectiveness and productivity of the organizations. For solving these organizational issues the first step is to identify them.

A major consequence of bad, ineffective or negligent strategic leadership is the lack of communication between organizational departments. Normally every organization has two types of communication, the first one is the upward communication and the second is the downward communication.
