Introduction

Up to the 11 September 2001 the United States military operations against terrorism have played a significant role. They found only sporadically rather than disciplinary actions such as the bombing of Tripoli in 1986 after the bombing of the La Belle discotheque in Berlin. However military operations against terrorist organizations have become supportive following the events of September 2001. Two developments came together in the fall of 2001; firstly, the previously initiated Revolution in Military Affairs (RMA), their military strategic concept was centered on conventional wars between states. In the progress of weapons characteristics like accuracy, miniaturization and networking have improved over differentiated communication systems and developed with the aim of a technological superiority in all shelf levels reach (air, soil, and water, space and information media). Secondly, the emergence of the strategic scale terrorist network Al Qaeda, but the equivalent of a conventional war opponents barely (Reuter & Yoo, 2011).

Discussion

The military conflict with Al Qaeda has given rise to changes in the American military strategy, but remained embedded in overarching strategic and technological trends. There were situational driven refinements of operational concepts at the top and bottom of the power spectrum and specific enhancements of existing forces, but not to a fundamental military strategic realignment (Reuter & Yoo, 2011).

The Obama administration has issued the document on National Security Strategy of the United States (NSS), which defines the general security policy of the country compiled periodically by the National Security Council (NSC) of White House. The latest release on the national security strategy of previous administrations is of March 16, 2006. This document contained a more benevolent approach to multilateralism than the previous release, while reaffirming the American commitment in support of democracy and the fight against terrorism expressed September 17, 2002, signed by George W. Bush, and which focused on the concept of preventive war, which caused considerable controversy. The efforts to counter violent extremism reads the new version launched by Barack H. Obama are just some of the elements of our strategy, and cannot define the American approach with the rest of the world.
