CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION

The Problem

Safety in aviation and piloting has been a serious concern for the higher authorities, who inducted different people in their organization. While the management has been involved in regular trainings and coaching sessions designed for these individuals, many contingencies, cases and concerns have risen regarding the kind of safety attitudes that young and old pilots adopt in the field of piloting.

Background of the Study

To keep in consideration of the kind of changes that have prevailed in the area of aviation and piloting, safety attitudes vastly differ between younger pilots and older pilots. Safety is a prime concern in the area of aviation; absolutely zero percent chance of flaw exists in the area of safety when it comes to piloting and rendering services in the area of aviation.

Therefore, it must be excerpted and considered that people - young or old -should actually be analyzed regarding how these broad extremes of people belonging to different age brackets tend to consider safety. Safety and aviation relationship between attitude and piloting, attitude of older pilots, attitude of younger pilots and the difference between attitude of older and younger pilots -shall actually help develop the entire frame of the study and give us more room for research.

For example, in the case of safety attitude, works and literature put forth by Canfield DV. et.al (2001) suggests that young pilots are usually and have been found to be prone to drug and substance abuse, leading to fatal accidents. Prior to this, changes in attitudes of the people who have been addicted to drug and substance abuse show visible changes in attitude and behaviors.

In alignment with Hunter (2004), it has been witnessed that young pilots have higher levels of energy, but new to the zone of piloting and servicing in aviation. Lacking experience and command on a pilot, they usually tend to take matters of national interest into their own hands and make their own decisions while being on the plane.

Students who are now involved in studying engineering, aviation and are interested in piloting can actually take up reference for this study and try to analyze the key areas of focus and understanding that individuals should take and the measures which must be practiced accordingly (Adam, H., Deaton, J. E., Hansrole, R. W., & Shaikh, M. A. (2004)). Students can also relate the performance rendered and displayed by older pilots and try to reach a level of experiential learning, with the kind of efforts made by older pilots and to learn the kind of work they can yield to young people joining the wing of aviation.

According to Casner, S. M. (2005), research analysts in a position towards the development and understanding of how the constant changes in the field of aviation and technology are changing the methods of conduct in ...
