The Effects Environmental Ethics has on Water pollution

Introduction

Environmental Ethics is a part of philosophy that focuses on the moral relationship between people and the environment (Anonymous, 2013). This disciple of ethics focuses on understanding the responsibilities of human beings to the natural environment. However it is increasingly important for people around the world to take responsibility and play their part in protecting the environment and controlling the adverse impact mankind has on the environment. The need for ethical practices as far as they environment are concerned was first noticed when it became obvious that like all other aspects of human life where they receive guidance and require a set of laws which could be consulted in order to obtain guidance on the right and wrong ways of interacting with the environment. Environmental ethics enables a person to think in a more personal and interpersonal manner, in terms of how they need to behave towards others and the natural world itself (Fitzpatrick, 2012).

Problem Statement

Water is one of the most priceless commodities available to mankind; water gives life to people and provides them with the required nutrients required for sustainability (Epstein, 2010) However water supplies are drastically becoming scarce against the demand for fresh water. Over the next few years there is a huge possibility that within the coming years the supply of water will continue to drop. The reason why water is becoming scarce is due to the increase in pollution. Contamination has left 3.3 billion people around the world without water. Contamination is a result of various factors which bears a detrimental effect on the water rendering it completely useless. Many pollutants contaminating the water come from various sources for instance, industrial waste, sewage, soil erosion and many others. In order to cope with this situation and control water pollutions various initiatives have been taken, environmental ethics is amongst the major ones. Personal concern and moral responsibility is crucial in order to protect the future of the people, water is far too crucial in the lives of people which makes it all the more necessary to ensure that initiatives are pursued and enforced (Carpenter et al. 1998).
