Discussion

An overview of the progression of the classes makes it clear that there is a need for increased teacher involvement. Most of the things that were observed and noted during the progression of the class should have been observed by the teacher (Deasy, Catterall, Hetland & Winner, 2002). Measures should have been taken by the teacher to address the unique needs of the students. For instance, cases in which students spoke up after hesitation should have been addressed by the teacher and given relevance when they were taking place (Jenkins, 2009, p. 18). Such seemingly minor cases are of the kind where the slightest intervention on the teacher's part can go a long way in developing the student's skills and abilities.

Taking notes is clearly a skill that is under appreciated and should be encouraged in schools. It is a skill that cannot be set aside because it is a skill that facilitates the development skills (Svinicki & McKeachie, 2011, p. 64). For this reason, I think it is essential for curriculums to include instructional lessons for students on note taking. Note taking is usually considered to be a skill that can be allowed to develop with the passage of time (Deasy, Catterall, Hetland & Winner, 2002, p. 6).
