The opening of the poem is with a quote that was borrowed from Nativity sermon of Lancelot Andrewes, discoursed in Jacobean court in 1622. Eliot has admired the intellectual achievement of Andrewes as he has pointed his skills to grasp both emotional sensibility and intellectual idea in his leadership and harmony in church of 17th century.
