Introduction

Raising a family is a significant part of any couples' life, as they wish to share their joy and happiness with other members of the family. The right to raise a family is the fundamental right of every human being, and when people find the right companion, they should have the free choice to extend their families with the introduction of children. The sexual orientation of the individuals is on the other hand a strictly personal decision, and in a modern and civilized society the right of the citizens (Adams, 1996). The sexual orientation of the people does not in any way impact their capacity to raise children, or create a conducive household environment. The current research actually states the contrary facts; as the same sex couples are more likely to present a relatively better financially sound and loving household environment. The sexual preferences of the couples is only one aspect of their lives, it does not have a bearing on their entire life decisions. Hence the lesbian and gay couples are just as normal and similar to the heterosexual couples in majority of their child bearing activities and behaviors. The choice of people to be involved in the same sex relationships does not have any negative implications on their ability to love, ca re and support the children. The children are more concerned about loving parents who will be able to support them throughout their lives, and will cherish them; instead of the sexual preferences of the parents. The same sex couples are no different from any other couple, who are only seeking an opportunity extend their family, and raise children in a healthy environment. In this scenario the adoption agencies should focus their attentions on the abilities of the parents to care and nurture the children, rather than their personal choices; when giving children for adoption.

Thesis Statement

The same sex couples have the right to adopt children; because they have similar parenting capabilities, as the heterosexual couples. Only the parenting abilities of the couples should be considered in the process of adoption.

Sexual Orientation vs. Parenting Ability

The sexual orientation of the couples does not have any considerable impact on their ability to provide an adequate household environment for the children. The children are at a higher risk if they are adopted by unsuitable parents, who neglect their needs; rather than the same sex couples. All the evidence provided by the latest research studies points at the fact that the homosexual and heterosexual couples, both have a similar behavioral pattern while caring for their children (Patterson, 1992). It is important to note that the homosexual couples are not separated from the society, and they are not an alien concept. These couples have spent most of their lives in the same social conditions as the heterosexual people, and they have similar abilities to raise children.
