In law enforcement organizations, computer technologies are employed to provide support in the investigation of crime cases in numerous ways. On the other hand, the frequent exchange of information taking place over the internet is also posing an opportunity for criminals. Intellectual property disputes, phishing, theft, corporate fraud, breach of contract and recovery of assets are some of the circumstances wherein computer technologies can be used effectively.

Advantages of Using Computer Technology

Computer technology in law enforcement provides a number of benefits. Criminal records are stored efficiently and conveniently and law enforcements from different districts can access shared databases without any hassle. In addition to this, these technologies are helpful in tracking criminal movements and demographics and in some cases, software can be supportive to scan thousands of live video streams from public cameras and stop lights using the software for facial recognition to search for the wanted criminals. With continuous advancement in computer technologies, the potential of employing computer technology into law enforcement seems endless, though the most important use of these technologies is that it helps the law enforcement agencies to access shared databases and keep a track of criminal records. The Law enforcement agencies, these days are utilizing the finest computer technologies available to carry out investigations, respond to crises, protect citizens and prevent crimes (Johnston, 2007).
