Compare and Contrast Two Accounts of World War II

Introduction

The two accounts before us are of the Second World War, and both have been viewed from different perspectives. There are similarities, and yet there are marked differences as well. The account from Hughes Rudd details his experiences while he was training until the time he left for Africa to take part in the war. He had his own hardships, but he took a light view of the goings on in the camps.The second account by Charles Cawthon and it is a very serious account of one of the bloodiest battles the world had seen upto that point. He wrote a firsthand account of the Normandy landing. His style in comparison is straight forward and is focused on the tragic nature of war itself. He wrote the account immediately after the war, so most of the details were still fresh in his mind.

In the paper, we will compare and contrast the two accounts and see what are the differences and similarities in those accounts. The war that started in 1939, ended in 1945 with the dropping of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The war ended with heavy casualties on both sides and today, the people solemnly remembered the wars. The cities of Dresden and London were destroyed almost completely. Infrastructure in many European countries suffered extensive damage. The people in Japan were the most affected due to the after effects of the bomb.
