The Three Most Important Elements From The Years Between 1945-2000

Introduction

This article is intended to serve as the basis of a survey of the history of the Nobel Peace Prize during its first 100 years. Since all the 107 candidates selected from 1901 to 2000 is mentioned, the focus is on facts and names.

1901-1913: The price of peace in the Peace Movement organized

Although there is nothing in the law that has withstood international Storting to appoint members, members of the Nobel Committee of the Storting (the committee was called until 1977) are all Norwegians from the beginning. They were chosen by the Storting to reflect the strengths of different parties, but members are elected by their own president. From December 1901 until his death in 1922, Jørgen Lovland is the chairman of the Nobel Committee.

1914-1918: The First World War and the Red Cross

The First World War meant the collapse of peace in the world where so many peace activists honored by the Nobel Peace has worked so hard to establish. During the war, the number of nominations for the somewhat reduced, although a significant number will be further emphasized. During the difficult years of war, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided not to award a neutral price, except that in 1917 the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The ICRC was founded in 1863 as the Swiss Committee and in the past year, the Convention for the Improvement of the Condition of the wounded troops in the Field (Geneva Convention) was signed.

1919-1939: The League of Nations and work for peace
