A number of companies in the world have developed globally, have increased the development, have improved and increased the corporate reorganisations and business paradigms. The roles of the HR manager have fundamentally changed drastically over the past few years. The roles of the human resource personnel have changed with the changes in the workplaces. The competitive advantage of the organisations these days is seen through the manpower it has. The importance of the strategies that the human Resource Department designs affect the whole organisation. The competitive advantage of any organisation is largely affected by the Human Resource personnel, as well as, the Human Resource strategies. This report is intended to study the human resource strategies and their importance and effect on the competitive advantage of the company.

The company that I have chosen for the report is Tesco. Tesco is a British multinational grocery store. It is the biggest super market of United kingdom. It dominates the retail sector of united Kingdom in domestic, as well as, global market share. It is also a general merchandise retailer. The headquarter of the company is located at Cheshunt, U.K. (www.tesco.com). Tesco is the third largest retailer in the world, after Carrefour and Wal-Mart. Tesco started as a company that catered in food, but it has expanded to a number of products since it was founded in 1919 by Jack Cohen (www.tescoplc.com). It has expanded to consumer electronics, consumer financial services, consumer telecoms, internet services and clothing. The business strategy of Tesco revolves around strategies for the long term engagement in the business and is largely based on four key areas:

1.The core business in United kingdom

2.Retailing services

3.Non food business

4.International presence (www.tescoplc.com)

The company believes that the success Tesco has achieved is due to the excellent operating strategies and the management team it has. Tesco can be called as a world under one roof. Everything that a customer needs is available at Tesco. It provides its customers with the services in which they can stop and buy everything and anything that they might be looking for. The long list of items that Tesco offers is grocery items, cd's, books, videos, digital music, games, flowers, gardening, holidays and flights, gas. They also provide financial services, insurance services, healthy living services and telecom services. Tesco is a one stop retail outlet which caters to the needs of nearly all segments of the market. This calls for a large number of manpower to execute the business it is running. The human resource of Tesco is the underlying strength that it has along with a number of other powerful strategies like marketing.
