Human Resource Management

Introduction

In this paper, the Human Resource Management Process of the hotel I used to work in is analyzed. Before studying as a full time student in this University, I worked as a “Hotel Translator” in a hotel. This paper, will start with a brief general description of the HRM processes which will follow the departmental structure of the hotel and brief general descriptions of each of the four processes, selection and placement, training and development, performance management and career development and succession planning of the hotel will be given before the in depth analysis of each section. After analyzing the strengths, weaknesses and gaps in the HRM system of the hotel, implications, recommendations or suggestions will be made to fill the gaps. Finally the paper will conclude to give the overall standing of the hotel's HRM process. Although, the post of a “Hotel Translator” does not offer a good room to understand the HRM process of the hotel, being always curious about the Human Resource department and their working, I had delved deep into the HRM working system of the hotel (A career …, 2005).

Discussion

Human Resource Management

HRM is the management and control of the human resource or work force of any organization. The main tasks of the HRM department are to attract, select, train, assess, motivate, control, reward, offer career growth, develop organization culture and leadership and comply with the international standards of labor laws and employment for the employees of an organization (Armstrong, 2000). The HR department is therefore, the primary liaison between the administration or management of an organization and the employees.

In new or small companies, the duties of HR may be performed by a few trained professionals or even general administration of the organization. However, in larger companies, a trained team of professionals is necessary for the management of human resource to maintain the working efficiency of the organization.

Initially, the main tasks were to manage the benefits and payrolls of the employees but with the evolution of communication and increase in the expansion of businesses to multinational levels, the department started to cover strategic initiatives like diversity and inclusion, labor and industrial relations, succession planning, talent management and acquisitions and mergers.
