ABSTRACT

In this study we try to explore the concept of Indian tobacco market in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on economy of tobacco and its relation with Indian FMCG market. The research also analyzes many aspects of the tobacco consumption and tries to gauge its effect on the FMCG market of India. Finally the research describes various factors which are increase in the consumption of tobacco in India and tries to describe the overall effect of Impact of tobacco and it's product on Indian FMCG market.

Background of the study

The Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) market of India has shown an immense amount of growth in terms of economic progress since the past few years. It is only possible because the market of India is so huge that more and more new companies are entering the market in order to cater such a huge market. Any product launched in the market, makes its own place by catering a certain lot of the total population of India. Be it cosmetics, eatables, technical or any other products, the market has a huge demand for all these products. Smoking is one of the biggest problems amongst all the problems related to the human health. It is by far been one of the most important issue of this century. Smoking is an entirely preventable event that has been present in the development of society, contributing in significant morbidity and mortality, even at the expense of developments which have public health case issue (Relyea, 2003, pp 24).

India, just like the other parts of the world has been severely affected by the smoke issue. There has even been a huge impact on the FMCG market of India because of tobacco and its related products. But good progress has been made by different government bodies and other NGO's because of which recognition has been given to prevent and secure public health and society.
