Thesis Statement

In conceiving and apparently characterizing functions and responsibilities of each one-by-one, employees of association will directly be adept to glimpse how their own function assists to running and achievement of company.

Introduction

Employee empowerment is " method of endowing or authorizing an individual to believe, act, take activity, and command work and conclusion making in autonomous ways. It is state of feeling self-empowered to take control of one's own destiny".(Armstrong 2001)

In other words, it is giving employees power and ability to make decisions that affect not only their department but company as the whole as well. Empowerment has become an increasingly used human resources (HR) buzzword when analyzing corporate world of today. Empowerment of employees can increase employee morale, improve company performance, and improve employee relations but it is not an overnight process. (Cooper 2004)

All grades of workers, supervisors, and administration have to work simultaneously and be correctly prepared in alignment to make an empowerment program successful.

Improving Employee Morale

In many corporate organizations, lower level employees often feel unappreciated and underutilized. Often, employees can feel like just another cog in machine, destined to do same thing day after day with all decisions being made by " powers that be". When businesses take up an worker empowerment mentality, these sentiments can be decreased or even eliminated. (Foster 2002)

Allowing, and even mandating, employees to have the say in company decisions makes them feel important to operation of company. Employees want to be perceived and they want their opinions to matter. There is no better morale booster for an employee than to see his or her idea become the company policy. When this happens, employee feels they are no longer just the faceless number; he or she is being recognized as an important contributing part of company. (Herzberg 2004)

Improving Company Performance

Another benefit of employee empowerment programs is usually the noticeable improvement in company performance. There is the simple explanation for this phenomenon; employees that are most familiar with day-to-day processes have best hand on knowledge to be able to implement educated changes and improvements to those processes. Often, many members of management and corporate officers are hired into their jobs based on education and experience with other companies; they often never worked their way up within current company and have therefore never experienced day-to-day processes.

Therefore, decisions made by those officers are often solely based on hypothetical situations and projected profits; they are often so focused on "big picture" that they overlook details. However, when employees actually performing job are asked to make decisions, they look at from bottom and up and take those forgotten details into consideration. (Arnold 2010)

Turnover can be the positive process when an employer manages to bring new recruits, along with their new ideas and vigor into organization. Yet, unmanaged employee turnover can easily steal your company's knowledge base, profits and competitive edge in market.
