The Street Children and Harshness of life [La Vendedora De Rosas]

La Vendedora De Rosas

Introduction:

The movie “The Rose Seller” is a movie that has shown a glimpse of the world of violence and hopelessness in the slums of Medellin, by depicting the lives of innocent children. This movie is a variation on the story of the “Little Match Girl,” and this move follows the experiences of children on the street, as they live a very tough life in the slums of Medellin, Columbia during Christmas. One of the main characters of the movie, i.e. Monica, who is just thirteen years old, is living with some girls of her own age, who are full of spirit and have run away from their homes. These girls sell roses to earn their bread and butter. This was not an easy job for them especially, when they used to see some other kids on the streets that are experienced than them and have more knowledge about things. However, these girls are learning the different art of earning and living their live, they are moving across the world, robbing the motorists; who have stopped at traffic signals, trying out things like prostitution for earning money, and developing habits like sniffing glue. This habit of sniffing glue, was the cheapest in the market, as this could be found everywhere in the movie. The different kids on the street are huffing, having conservations with each other, and sniffing glue throughout the movie. (Ruberto & Wilson 2007)

The conditions that have been shown in the movie could be declared as condemnable, however, there was a good reason behind this act of the Director Victor Gaviria's and he has allowed the cast of the movie and the events of the movie speak for themselves.

Nevertheless, at the time when the camera is all cold, whatever the viewer is seeing is convincing, and even more unnerving fact is that the movie at times seems to be sprawling and rudderless. The tale an unmanageable number of stories of tragedies in the lives of people in the movie, and the movie carries on at such a fast pace that it is very difficult for a person to keep track of the characters of the movie and it is difficult to know in detail about any of the characters of the movie. (Ruberto & Wilson 2007)

The subject of the movie is demoralizing, but it is not without a solid background. This movie is made in the backdrop of celebrations for Christmas, with a number of music, colorful catholic iconography, and bright lights. The fireworks are crackling and whizzing during the whole night, and this thing hides the noise of the dangerous gunfire that was happening in the backdrop. The story is also interlarded with numerous glue caused, sequences of hallucination, which manage to give viewers a little bit of insight into the sense of vulnerability of the children in the context.
