Introduction

The purpose of this study is to explore a non-profit organization and obtain an understanding of strengths and weaknesses of a non-profit organization utilized to operate a powerful functioning program. The main aim of the study is to know “how well the management of Non-profit organization is utilizing its strengths and weaknesses.”

The study focuses on Big Brothers Big Sisters which is a non-profit organization located downtown, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. BBBS was formed in Oklahoma with the merger of the BBBS agencies in Cleveland county, Green County (including Bartlesville, Claremore, and Tulsa), Oklahoma City, Shawnee (including Ada), and Stillwater. BBBS of Oklahoma was affiliated with BBBS of America, which was recorded as the nation's premiere youth mentoring organization. Big Brothers, was the original name of the organization, which was founded in New York City in 1904. In 1977, Big Brothers decided to combine efforts with a local group called Ladies of Charity. This is where the name Big Brothers Big Sisters evolved from. BBBS is now in 50 states and 12 countries around the world.

Strengths of Big Brothers Big Sisters

The strengths of Big Brothers Big Sisters include the following:

strong college student participation

good base of children to grow with

reaches a lot of communities

volunteer program is effective

In addition to this, BBBS target those children, which ranged in ages from six to 16 and up to eighteen, if those children chose to stay in the program. The children had to be old enough to stay with a volunteer and young enough to want to maintain the friendship of the volunteer. With the help of BBBS, children were offered one to one mentoring by carefully screened adults, which was authorized by BBBS. These adults were provided professional support to each matched child by BBBS. BBBS was able to produce dramatic outcomes for these children's future and the Oklahoma communities in which they lived. These children were less likely to use drugs and experiment with alcoholic drinking than their peers and less likely to miss school. These children were also less likely to lie to others or hit someone when trying to solve a problem or issue.
