Abstract

The research proposal is about the study of nonverbal communication. Nonverbal communication is a type of non-linguistic communication that extends in an individual through intrapersonal and interpersonal relationships which reflects a variety of acquired genetic and learned environmental behaviours, attitudes, prejudices and beliefs derived from the influence of cultural and societal situations. Thus, nonverbal communication encompasses behaviours related to the study of kinesics, or body language, gestures, facial expressions, posture and eye behaviour; the study of proxemics, which refers to spatial relationships and personal distances which occur in the context of interrelationships; the study of chronemics, which refers to the perception and use of time and rate of speech; the study of paralinguistic's, or the sound element of nonverbal communication, and the study of semiotics, communication through signs and symbols, and a range of micro momentary information and artefacts, dress, status and other symbols. To generate and respond to these behaviours it is necessary for an individual to interact in the interpersonal communication process as illustrated in the transactional communication model which reveals.

Nonverbal Communication

Nonverbal communication is a significant aspect of actual face-to-face interaction. It's also one of the majority efficient ways to reveal emotions. Effective nonverbal communication is a potent proficiency in which the skill to interpret facilitates you join with others, convey what you actually average, renew interpersonal relationships and do contesting situations. According to Wertheim, nonverbal communication includes body vocabulary such as facial expressions, body movements, posture, gestures, eye contact, touch, space and voice. Nonverbal communication employs the total body. It ranges from pointing a finger to verbal sounds of "ahhhh" and "uhum." According to Argyle, the initial operates of nonverbal body communication are to convey emotion and interpersonal opinion, advocate speech/verbal communication in doing cues between the messenger and sender, self-represent one's personality, and perpetuate rituals such as greetings.

Nonverbal communication can positively and negatively affect interpersonal relationships. As interpersonal relationships devise, more attention is given to nonverbal body language. To say you are listening would be advocated via your eye contact and location of the body facing each other. Facial expressions would advocate and/or reflect whether you are excited, thankful, actual, emotionally impacted, furious, bored, frustrated or preoccupied. Therefore, nonverbal communication is significant to settling clash, relishing each other's corporation, meaningful conversation and boosting trust.

Nonverbal communication--such as feigning to relish conversations, ridiculing or mimicking, and paying misleading cues that you interpret the topic--can dramatically affect a relationship. Nonverbal communication that portrays a person with small to no impression at pitiful times, such as during intimacy or an controversy, (Peter, 1987, 21) can also harm the relationship.
