Philosophy of Education

Introduction

The following is my thoughts on what it means to educate and what the purpose of a well organized class should and what it should involve. Although, this is my reasoning along with my beliefs, it all counts on what categories and topics you are teaching and what part of the world your students are from. In alignment to be the best teacher you can be, you should try to involve many distinct educating beliefs and methods so that your students can get a well rounded education.

I believe it is significant for teachers to have an understanding of the education scheme and the annals of the education scheme from localities all over the globe in order to have full information of what distinct methods can be used to effectively teach all of their diverse school room population. It was indicated in Driscoll that “evaluating various learning theories for their validity and usefulness ultimately becomes a matter of developing a personal theory of learning and instruction” (Driscoll, 2005, p. 411).

Philosophy of Education

A personal educational philosophy offers particular insight into educational learning and instruction as pointed out in Driscoll. By having various educational philosophies to follow, it allows for different aspects of learning to be brought into the learning environment. It was recommended in Driscoll that when developing a personal theory of learning, it should be conveyed in a specific professional context (Driscoll, 2005).

Conceptual Framework

The way a student learns in an educational environment may be directly correlated to the motivation they demonstrate in wanting to obtain knowledge in a particular academic area (Brewer & Burgess, 2005). Motivation has been recognized as an essential characteristic of learning for college students (Brewer & Burgess). According to Brewer and Burgess, it is essential that in order to better motivate students, it first starts with teachers being trained in various teaching approaches and communication styles so they may better handle an instructional setting in positive ways. This is also due to the fact that it is typically known and understood that college teachers must manage several responsibilities at the same time as noted in (Brewer & Burgess, 2005).

One of the major responsibilities of a teacher to consider is to motivate students to have the desire to attend class and to teach (Brewer & Burgess, 2005). As part of training teachers concerning on best practices for motivating students, they may also be evaluated on their skills of instruction, building relationships, and classroom management as recommended in Brewer and Burgess. Once these areas just described are developed in positive ways they may also be a further utilized by teachers to motivate students to learn as noted in Brewer and Burgess.

It was even suggested in Brewer and Burgess that although students were responsible for learning material in a class, the teacher is in charge of causing their students to be motivated to want to know the information being taught. A study noted in Brewer and Burgess made ...
