Abstract

In this study we try to explore the concept of Organizational Development in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on time management and its relation with the development of the organization. The research also analyzes the importance of managing personal and professional time for a worker and tries to gauge its effect on the overall organizational development. Finally the research describes various factors which are responsible for mismanagement of time and tries to describe the overall effect on the organization. Moreover, the study also highlights some of the ways in which time could be effectively managed to contribute toward the productivity of the organization.

Chapter 1: Introduction

Background of the Research

Time is wealth, goes the saying. In every aspect of life, management of one's time is of immense importance. Whether it is one's day-to-day chores or long term planning about one's life, time is always to be kept in mind (Seiwert 2001, Pp.75).

There are many instances wherein people have faced unsurpassed failure because they did not pay a heed to the slipping time (Slaven 2003, pp. 20-28).

Therefore it is essential to distribute one's activities on a timely basis to prove to be efficient. The similar happens on an organizational level when each individual in the workforce adds to the overall development of the organization with effective management of time (Stone-Romero 1999, p. 87-111).

Each one of us complains of having a very restricted amount of time. No human being can work beyond a certain capacity of time as the human body cannot be mechanized to work like a machine (Sykes 2005, pp. 253-263).

There is a need for personnel to strike a balance between their work and relaxation time in order to yield efficiency (Taguchi 1999, p. 65-75).

Therefore, it is important to study the importance of time management and how it contributes toward the development of the organization (Tyler 2003, pp. 103-105).

Problem Statement
