Paraphrasing Strategies

Paraphrasing strategies involve recalling the main ideas and particular facts of the material at hand. There are a number of strategies that can be employed to paraphrase articles or journals. These strategies consist of:

Passive

This is when the active voice is changed to passive and vice versa. Example:

Original: He is going to complete the assignment before the due date.

Changed: The project will be done ahead of the time by him.

“Tough” Movement

These are words where the meaning of the word is known but the writer cannot think of any alternative. Example:

Original: Mary is tough ...
