CHAPTER 02: LITERATURE REVIEW

An efficient and functional workplace is the goal any employer would want to achieve. With different organizations, corporate cultures vary but they all strive to be as advantageous as they can in order to ensure the organizational goals are achieved. While there can be no magic miracle that fixes workplace efficiency and optimizes, it, there are several factors that contribute in making a workplace it's most efficient. Thus, for the workplace performance to improve, the training as well as other performance boosters are applied. In this paper, I will be analyzing the different texts over-going cases of anxiety and depression in the work place.

The Contemporary Workplace

In the competitive world of today, understanding the need for a commitment and the ethical duties needed for leadership is essential. It is also vital that leaders try their utmost to shorten the gap between them and their followers, as this is something that has been observed by many organizations in recent years. Different factors that may lead to a lull in performance are analyzed and worked upon to improve the employee morale. Organizational goals as well as individual goals must be monitored, documented and updated regularly by the employer as well as their subordinates. According to Burns (1978),”leadership is one of the most observed, but the least understood phenomena”.

Proper encouragement in terms of competition must be given, and freedom must be given to them to carry out tasks that are essential to climbing the ladder. As Jack Welch from General Electric puts it, “The essence of competitiveness is liberated when we make people believe that what they think and do is important - and then get out of their way while they do it." As the importance of stakeholders is built by employers, their function with respect to the expectation of certain tasks needs to be examined and their reliance and trust earned. Leadership of an organization must always ensure that their organizational culture within the firm is one that makes use of moral stewardship, which could potentially lead to a development of trustworthiness built in the stakeholders and their decisions regarding the performance of the organization itself (Newstrom, John & Davis, Keith 1993). Furthermore, a regular examination of employee motivation and job satisfaction must be carried out, if the leadership is to achieve peak performance. Sustainability of the organization also depends on how trustworthy the employees are, and in a highly competitive market, it is this sustainability that must be honed and enhanced to achieve organizational targets.

In a contemporary workplace, motivation affects an individual's ability to persuade another since it would require certain energy for them to be able to persuade and manipulate the viewpoint of the person on the receiving end.
