In the advanced world of the present age, the communication devices and other progressive technologies have witnessed a boom amongst the users and the consumers. There are billions of people belonging to all the age groups and incomes segments that use internet and the related technology for the purpose of communication and knowing about the world. This paper deals with the cyber crimes that occur predominantly on internet these days. It will talk about a real life cyber attack case with the background and other fundamentals of the nature of cyber crimes.

Cyber Crimes

According to the definition, the term "crime" includes three types of crime:

Traditional forms of crime, such as fraud and forgery (scams, counterfeit payment cards, etc.) online;

The dissemination of illegal content electronically (for example, those relating to sexual violence against children or incitement to racial hatred) on internet; and

Crimes unique to electronic networks, that is to say, attack on information systems, the denial of service and hacking.

The economic actors are prime targets for cybercrime, but the government or citizens are not safe either. United States, the Pentagon has recorded alone in 2001, more than 22,000 attacks against electronic systems have occurred, and the FBI has identified 5,000 infrastructure "extremely vulnerable" to cyber crime and can "destabilize the entire economy of a country, "said Ronald L. Dick, director of the National Infrastructure Protection (Chen, Christopher, 1990). The common point of these types of offenses is that they can be committed on a large scale and the geographical distance between the place where the act or omission is made and its effects can be considerable. Fraud and online fraud are becoming increasingly important. In 2001, organized groups in Ukraine and Russia have hijacked more than 40 U.S. sites, diverting numbers of at least one million credit cards. From Moscow to Tokyo via Paris or Lausanne, the specialized police seem overwhelmed by the rampant crime that takes advantage of vulnerabilities in computer systems (Sabina, Chiara, Janis, and David, 2008).

According to the Council of Europe, fraud on credit cards is around $ 400 million per year and the damage caused by virus attacks to nearly $ 12 billion. Every second in the world, 18 adults become victims of cybercrimes, for a total of over one and a half million victims a day. Cybercrime against home users is on the rise, and cause losses to an average total of $ 197 per victim in direct financial costs. The data from the annual Norton Cybercrime Report of the study suggests that this subject has been one of the world's most important researches. In Italy, an estimated 8.9 million people were victims of cybercrime in the last twelve months, leading to direct financial losses for 275 euro each in total, therefore, the economic loss amounted to 2.45 billion well (Ball, Leslie, 1982).

The cyber crimes are becoming increasingly social and mobile and this year's index shows a rise in new forms of computer crime compared to last year. These include those perpetrated through social networks and mobile ...
