Introduction

Infant mortality and Low birthweight among African American women is more than twice that of white women. The low birth weight (LBW) is associated with 75% of perinatal mortality and more than 5 million child deaths that occur each year worldwide, so the index is predictive of infant mortality, more significant.

To aim at infant mortality rates below 10 should have been reducing the rate of low birth weight to 6% or less, and that its structure, 60% ??of cases are preterm pure, and the other malnourished intraútero (Allen, 1997). Infant mortality and LBW newborns provide 60% ??of neonatal deaths and nearly 4% of the infant ill. Hospital costs of care required by children with LBW were estimated at more than half of the total, since the problems generated by the BNP, not limited to but include mortality increased morbidity and impact on quality of life.
