Article 1

The article (Caryl, 2010) is written after 9 years of 9/11 and focuses on the funding of extremist groups. The article argues that despite of making many anti terrorist efforts, the governments and other law forcing agencies have not really worked for identifying and stopping the funds transfers for terrorist activities. I agree with the article on the point, that since 9/11 many Islamic charities which were accused of funding the terrorist activities were shut down only for some time, and began their operations with other names again in no time. Also, I agree with the writer on the point that it is not easy to identify the terrorist funding resources. However I don't agree with the writer on his point that since the finding amount for the planned attack was too little ($5000-$7000), it was not at all possible to identify the money transfer. If the policies which underlay money exchange and screening of people would have been efficient, the authorities must have identified the terrorist.

Over the period of last 10 to 15 years, terrorist finance has become a critical issue, particularly for the countries such as US and those belonging to European Sub Continent. Due to the increased globalization and use of advanced information and communication technologies, it has become very easy for the extremist and terrorist groups to control and conduct the terrorist activities from far off locations. One of the major factors that support terrorist finance is obviously, the increasing poverty level and recession of the people, due to which most of the terrorists agree for even suicide attacks for a minimum amount, as was the case in article under discussion.

The successful terrorist activities and funds transfers undermine the ability of developed countries such as US. Such activities highlight the fact that although many efforts have been made for fighting against terrorism and most of the nation's resources have been spent in this regard, there is a need to do more in order to provide security to the citizens of country.
