Ethics In Supply Management

Abstract

This report evaluate the level of responsibility in terms of ethics within the supply chain management activities of companies chose from the retail, pharmaceutical, mining, oil, tobacco, energy and telecommunication sectors. The management of the Supply Chain Management (SCM) is emerging as the combination of technology and best business practices globally. Different stakeholders and consumers are showing growing concern for the burdens left throughout the different stages of production on the environment. The engagements they take on in the ethics and supply chain practice span a very wide spectrum. Many compaines have adopted the teams that has helped the client to take very operational action to immediately improve responsible practice within the supply chain.

Discourse analysis methodology has been adopted to analyze the data on ethical practices and corporate social responsibility initiatives taken by the companies. Annual reports, sustainability reports, and code of ethics provided comprehensive information about company's approach to ethical practices adoption in SCM practices. Analysis part focused on examining the stakeholders included in the text, stakeholder's interest appeared to be served in the text, factors that can be claimed to be true and factual, commonly used words and phrases, and themes identified in the reports. Shell is working with local community by creating local employment and supporting the economy of the region.

Introduction

It is well known that organizations are managed effectively implement comprehensive operational procedures and substantiated. As the size of the organization is large and the number of persons covered by these procedures, the greater they become important. And in the case of organizations that are part of a vast interconnected network, such as Ontario's broader public sector, it is essential that documented procedures are in place to ensure the implementation of activities in an efficient, effective and accountable.

As we have been emphasizing throughout this text, ethical decisions are critical to the long-term success of any organization. However, the supply chain is particularly prone to slippage, as the opportunities to behave unethically are enormous. With a sales staff eager to sell, and purchasing agents who spend huge amounts, the temptation of unethical behavior is considerable. Many sellers end up making friends with their clients, making favors, taking them to dinner, or giving them small (or big) gifts. Define when a gift of friendship becomes a bribe is a challenge (Keating, 2009).

Many companies have rules and strict codes of conduct that limit what is considered acceptable. Being aware of these problems, the Institute for Supply Management has developed principles and standards that can be used as guidelines for ethical behavior.
