ABSTRACT

Google Docs is created by the Microsoft Corporation, this online software allows for ease of collaboration on documents. The main aim and objectives of the study is to examine the students experience on Google doc. The second aim of this research is to discuss the student benefit from Google doc and examine the advantages and disadvantage of Google doc. The purpose of this study was to understand faculty perceptions of the advantages and disadvantages of Google Docs for students' by viewing the learning collaboration skills and collaborative technology with this suite of tools. The study is significant for both the teachers and the students. The research approach used is qualitative. Qualitative research is much more subjective than quantitative research and uses very different methods of collecting information which could be both primary and secondary. Finally, research concludes with the advantages and disadvantages that Google docs has in instructing students in education with collaborative technology was needed to discover if higher education is preparing students, with collaboration and communication aptitude, for school and career purposes.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Background of the study

Google Docs is a tool used to share information in one document without having to be sent to user. The main advantage is that it can be modified document from a computer and check the update at the same instant in other computers. Allows access to multiple users can work on it with the proper permits at the same time (sharing the document in which they will be allowed to edit and the person who created the document appears as owner) (Barrett 2006, p.12). It is very useful in research or in jobs where several people have to bring unique knowledge, jobs that have to be put in may be mutually opinions. It has been shown that saves time and loss of files with this system. It is especially useful with the construction of concept maps where several people can set different conceptual relationships and reach agreements quickly graphically, because the graphic is much slower to perform than the text.
