Information System

Function and structure are two perspectives which can be used to define the information systems. From the perspective of function, an information system can be defined as medium which can be chronologically implemented for the purpose of storing, disseminating and recording linguistic expressions and in order to support the interference making. From the point of view of structure, information system is referred to collections of processes, people, data, technology, models and partially language which is formalized and form a structure that is cohesive and serves the function or purpose of the organization (Laudon, & Laudon, 2008).

There are many challenges in the business environment which are perceived by the managers. Organizational strategy is set by the organizations for the purpose of allocating and responding the financial and human resources in order to coordinate the work and achieve the strategy. Responsible leadership must be exercised throughout the tenure by the managers for keeping the systems of the organization updated. The job of the management is to “make sense” in various circumstances which are faced by the organizations and prepare action plans for solving the problems of the organizations (Rainer, & Cegielski, 2009).

But this does not make a perception of managing only things that already exists. They are also required to develop new services and products and create ways which can bring organizations towards innovation and creativity. They need to re-create the organization from time to time. To create the work which is driven from new information and knowledge is the considerable part of the management's responsibility. A powerful role is played by information technology in redesigning and redirecting the organization. The roles and decisions of the management vary at different levels which is important to be noticed by all the stakeholders of the organization. Long-range strategic decisions are taken by senior managers about services and products to produce.

On the other hand, middle managers are responsible for carrying out the plans and programs of senior management. Daily activities are monitored by the operational managers. It can be understood by the discussion that all the managers at different levels are expected to be innovative and to develop novel solutions to an extensive assortment of problems. Different information systems and information needs are required by each level of management.

We live in an era of rapid change. The product life cycle shortens, the markets become more global and companies, whether public or private, are facing an ever increasing competitive pressure. The ability of a firm to move quickly and flexibly respond to these challenges requires, among other things, knowledge of current principles of management information systems and communications.
