The application of Information Technology for supporting the main operations and actions of public or private sector is known as the Information Systems Management (ISM). In the older times, the management of the information system was not focused while other things like capital, labour and raw materials were focused. However, at present, the business owners openly acknowledge that the management of the information technology and resources is very significant.

By the help of Information Systems Management, the procedure of storage, utilization, collection, manipulation and distribution of the information resources of an organization can be supported. The study of corresponding networks of software and hardware that organizations and managers use to create, collect, process, distribute and filter the data is done through Information Systems.

The evaluation and monitoring of the data involves the assessment and gathering of huge information. The storage, gathering and management of this information are big challenges for the IT managers (CES, 2013). The IT/IS managers offers support in the development of the database that requires evaluation and monitoring. These managers have an intricate job of operating a function that utilizes too many resources.

Background

The IT/IS manager of an organization is receiving denigration from the Board of Directors. The issue is the performance of the IT/IS department and the service provided to users of the organization.

In this paper, the strategic management will be discussed along with the role of the IT/IS department and the IT/IS manager will be discussed. Furthermore, the actions will also be discussed so that the manager can improve the performance of the department and can prove himself in front of the Board of Directors.

Strategic management

A significant step in certifying the long term feasibility and practicability of an organization is done through the strategic management. The strategic management includes the study of indications and warnings of the future and to understand them for the selection of a suitable direction for the future growth and establishment of the organization.

The information technology is considered as a method for the attainment of these strategies for creating the economic benefits. The strategic management of the IT/IS resources is linked with the official function or unit of the organization that is the Information Systems department.

The management of the IT/IS strategies has been considered as an unrelenting dilemma which should be solved by the IT managers. However, the configuration and formation of the IT/IS and organizational strategies is a vital action that can attain reasonable lead (Galliers & Leidner, 2012, pp. 64-66).

Role of IT/IS Department

The most influential agent or function in an organization is the Information Systems department. Effectual modifications can be made in the organization with the help of an IT/IS department. The IT/IS department can propose new information based products and business strategies in the organization.
