The issue of motivation at work

Introduction

The paper is related to motivational issues at workplace. The paper surrounds the quote of Bratton (2012, 19) that “the issue of motivating workers underscores the nature of the employment relationship”. The paper comprises of one content and one process theory. The paper also comprises of the ways in which staff can be motivated. The motivation can also ensure a positive employment relationship.

Motivation is the driver for the attainment of the goals. It can be intrinsic and extrinsic. Motivation may be required to fulfill specific basic needs, to increase pleasure, to attain desired objectives or it can be related to less-apparent reasons such as selfishness or mortality. Motivation consists of those factors that may cause, sustain and direct behavior toward a goal. There are several related concepts that are closely related such as stimulus: factor able to produce a reaction; incentive: a stimulus that moves or excites outside the subject to want to do a positive thing; interest: the inclination of the subject to certain securities and / or objectives and learning: to acquire new types of behavior or potential (Williams, 2000).

Motivation is a complex concept to explain because its use is frequent and is used in many fields. However, we are only concerned with the motivation of man in relation to his work, and more precisely the motivation the company. Nowadays, motivation of employees and teams to achieve organizational goals is a major concern for any manager, regardless of the field of activity or the type of organization (private or public administration, nonprofit, SMEs). In fact, the majority of business leaders believe that motivation is the human factor that can make the difference between closest competitors.

Discussion

To encourage an employee to engage in serious work and give himself up, the manager can use different methods (promotion, fringe benefits) which are provided by the company but also his strength of conviction and persuasion training or charisma. The organization must help workers identify their expectations and should attempt to identify the levers to motivate them to exert influence on them that will act in the direction desired by the organization. This will also get the most out of each worker individually and collectively, but also involvement in their work in order to make more than what they were asked. Currently, the motivation is often seen as a problematic concept as it is exceeding the conventional methods, especially in terms of authority and remuneration, many companies have used and still use.

The motivation is not a stable process; it is constantly questioned (including each trade). In addition, the motivation of people does not necessarily lead to the performance of the organization. A highly motivated and can work quickly overlook important parts of his work. The individual should direct his motivation in a way useful to the organization.
