Self-Awareness

Self-awareness is considered as very important for a person, as if people want to live a better life and understand others; they first need to understand themselves. There are different aspects of personality which makes the character of person strong and weak, and it is necessary that the person is aware of his own strengths and weaknesses. This allows us to make efforts to strengthen his weakness and make his life and personality in a better way. Self-awareness is necessary, if a person cannot understand himself; he won't be able to make his personality strong (Bandura, and Adams, 1977, pp. 287-310). Indeed, Bourner (1996) wrote, “Managers who have a sound perception of their weaknesses are in a position to compensate by surrounding themselves with those having compensatory strengths”. This means once you have identified areas of weaknesses you can either choose to develop these areas or delegate those tasks to others (Martin, 2004, pp. 37-89).

There are benefits to managers who are Self Aware and who use Self Analysis for “gaining an insight into one's self is usually accompanied by greater insight into other people” (Borner 1996). This understanding of the people we manage and their needs, goals and desires, along with strengths and weaknesses enables more efficient management and development of them. This is a positive way in which relationships with co-workers can be developed, while at the same time improving self-confidence. The relationship between manager and staff is vital as “The cooperate war will not be won without winning the hearts and minds of all the people in the organization” (Strickland 1996).

Self-Analysis

Self-analysis is a way of analyzing one's own personality, keeping in mind the different aspects of personality. This analysis helps in visualizing the strengths and weaknesses of personality which is affecting it. A person should know about his own personality and emotions, so that he can deal with it accordingly. There are different tools available for self-analysis which can be used by people to analyze themselves, so that they can evaluate their strengths, power, weaknesses, emotions and personality (Bandura, and Adams, 1977, pp. 287-310). Self-analysis helps individuals in understanding their own personality by focusing on the different aspects of life. The personal as well as professional life can be improved by focusing on self-analysis. If a person is able to analyze his personality in a good way, he can find out ways to improve the aspects where he is weak. This analysis also allows a person to know that in which areas of life he is good and what he can do with his life (Patterson, and Cohn, 2006).
