Introduction

In this assignment, I am selecting the topic of “Recruitment and Selection” from the field of Human Resource Management. This paper will cover the discussion over the topic “Recruitment and Selection” from two different journal's articles, 'Journal of Management' and 'Personnel Psychology'. The journal of management article is “Staffing in the 21st Century: New Challenges and Strategic Opportunities” and Personnel Psychology is “Recruiting through the Stages: A Meta-Analytic Test of Predictors of Applicant Attraction at Different Stages of the Recruiting Process”. In this paper, different tasks are meant and I will separately discuss each article's subject, literature, research design and methodology, and their contribution in the field of human resource management. The purpose of this paper is to compare both articles' applicability in my future work place and to understand how my attributes will be evaluated in my future interviews and job tests. It is essential to notice that success of organization in contemporary business environment is highly depended on the capability of manpower that indicates the potential opportunity to daily organizational affairs. The recruitment and selection process of every category of employees in both public and private companies have become a great concern and centre of attention. Despite the fact, every organization is willing to hire and attract the best potential human resource for making them a great part of their company's growth. The scope of this subject area is huge because inducting a right person for the designed job category in an organization is a key to success.

The article of Journal of Management 'Staffing in the 21st Century: New Challenges and Strategic Opportunities' belongs to the subject of human resource management subject. This article discusses that contemporary organizations grapple with staffing challenges from extensive competition, knowledge, shortage of labour and workforce diversity. Organizations are aware that effective staffing practice needs critical understanding, but many staffing research seems to be misunderstood or neglected by many decision makers of the organization. For solving such issues, organizations require staffing scholars for extending their focus from individual level selection and recruitment to multilevel selection. If in any company, the recruitment and selection is conducted by ordinary managers and not the expertise of human resources; the company tend to suffer in the end. The human resources personnel seem to have a better idea about judging the most suitable candidates for every position. The appropriate recruitment and selection process basically involves a series of steps to be followed. It is always beneficial for the companies to formally regulate the underlying recruitment and selection process. The formal recruitment and selection process followed by any company ensures that the most suitable person is hired for the position being offered. The process of recruitment and selection starts with posting the job offers over the print media. Historically, only newspapers were used to make the citizens aware about the job.
