Introduction

The Storage Network Industry Association (SNIA) defines the SAN as a network whose primary purpose is the transfer of data between computer systems and storage elements. A SAN consists of a communication infrastructure, which provides physical connections; and a management layer, which organizes the connections, storage elements, and computer systems so that data transfer is secure and robust. The term SAN is usually (but not necessarily) identified with block I/O services rather than file access services. A SAN can also be a storage system consisting of storage elements, storage devices, computer systems, and/or appliances, plus all control software, communicating over a network.

Task 2: Estimation of the Time and Cost for the Entire Project

For the proposed project we will be implementing bottom-up technique for estimating time and cost. Bottom-up estimating is an extremely helpful technique in project management as it allows for the ability to get a more refined estimate of a particular component of work. In bottom-up estimating, each task is broken down into smaller components. Then, individual estimates are developed to determine what specifically is needed to meet the requirements of each of these smaller components of the work (Shelly, 2011: 114). The estimates for the smaller individual components are then aggregated to develop a larger estimate for the entire task as a whole. In doing this, the estimate for the task as a whole is typically far more accurate, as it allows for careful consideration of each of the smaller parts of the task and then combining these carefully considered estimates rather than merely making one large estimate which typically will not as thoroughly consider all of the individual components of a task. In general, is has the smaller the scope, the greater the accuracy.

Task 3: Estimating the Number of Programmers and Designers Needed

Before we look at the costs of having an app developed for your business, it is important to remind you that, from a business perspective, it is always better to focus on the value of the service and the benefit to your business than to focus purely on the cost (Sanghera, 2008: 101).

Design Costs

The overall production of an app is not just about the functionality that the app offers, the design of the user interface is also very important. A coder and a Graphic Designer will both have different opinions regarding which is more important, but essentially, an app that doesn't have the functionality expected by the user, or an app that is not presented well, and therefore doesn't engage the user, are both as bad as each other. The Design and the functionality of the app should be given equal importance (Sanghera, 2008: 102).

Scale of the project - Obviously, the bigger the scale of the project, the more graphic design work will need to be done.
