Safety Compliance

Introduction

These days, airline safety is becoming more and more complex and controversial. Recently, for example it was discovered that most of the essential safety checks did not take place on time and schedule by the Southwest Airline due to which, they were fined millions of US Dollars by the federal inspectors. Similarly, in another instance, dozens of Boeing 777 were grounded so that their cargo fire suppression systems could be tested, after the checking of their maintenance records indicated that a test on that part of the system was not conducted.

Incidents like these have raised eyebrows regarding the safety concerns of the airlines, the government and the people who regularly travel by air alike. Today everyone is fully aware that inspections related to safety are very serious business and they should not be allowed to be taken lightly. (Stempel, 2002)

Discussion

According to the law, the efforts made by the aviation industry to remain safe, is the best thing to do. The Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) is the authority who regulates the airlines and it has also incorporated the aspect of safety in their mission. They say that their mission is to offer the most safest and efficient aerospace system in the world and they believe in making better the safety system and the efficiency of the aviation. At the same time, being able to effectively respond the customers and remain accountable to the public. The policies and regulations that the Federal Aviation Agency released, effects operationally and strategically, all the business functions of the aviation industry. Their policy of Continuous Analysis and Surveillance calls for the airlines to come up with methods to assess effectiveness and the efficiency in the performance of maintenance and inspection. Their policy of Internal Evaluation program necessitates the airlines to continuously assess and monitor their internal processes, programs and procedures. Safety for the Federal Aviation Agency is and should be their very first priority since it affects not one but a number of people. (Federal Aviation Administration)

I, as a civilian safety manager in the aviation company, believe that the company is having issues in efficiently implementing the framework of safety. The key issues that the company is facing, includes:

Safety Training

Aviation training is literally as old as the aviation itself. So I believe that a very effective way to improve safety in aviation is through awareness, education and training. If we study closely, the accidents that took place in the early days of jet aviation, we can understand properly why we should remain attentive to the importance of proper training for preventing accidents from taking place. The training can be for pilots, flight attendants or mechanics related.

But the real problem is the actual training in the aviation company. It becomes a challenge because of the always changing technology and regulatory requirements. Today, we see many companies who are having problems in continuously updating the training procedures and assessing the effectiveness of these training that are so necessary to decrease the risk of ...
