Impact of Events on the Country and Tourism Industry

All international and national events affect the tourism industry of the country in number of ways. These include the environmental, social and economic impacts. Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games and The Tirgan an Ancient Iranian Festival also affected the respective countries tourism industry in many ways which are discussed in this section.

Economic Impact

When the events are organized in the countries, it creates more jobs in a direct or indirect manner. Thus, the creation of new jobs in the host country increases the buying power of consumers. However, the jobs created from the tourism and travel events are seasonal and income generated from these jobs is very small. Also, in case of international event such as Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, taxes are generated from the international visitors including airport and hotel taxes. These are used by the government in order to develop the event destination. For maintaining and promoting the tourism and travel in the region, it is important that infrastructure facilities such as roads, hospitals and buildings are constructed at higher rate. This is done from the developmental expenses and taxes from the government. Thus, the government spendings increase which is beneficial for local people. Another economic impact of such events is on the food industry (Koberg et.al 2003). In case of international events, the food sector is adversely affected as the demand of imported products increases to meet the demands of international visitors. In case of local events, the performance of food sector boosts as demand of the same increases at the point of event.

Social Impact
