Effects of Christian Counseling on Mental Health Community

Abstract

Mental health is a concept that aims to create stable living conditions and environments that enable individuals to maintain a normal lifestyle and share in the benefits of the state. These efforts include measures to increase the chances of more people living a normal health life with full mental well being and stability. Donahue describes mental health promotion as promoting positive mental health by increasing psychological well-being, competence and resilience and by increasing supportive living conditions and environments. Mental health is an integral component of an individual's overall well being. It must assume a prominent place in health promotion efforts. Evidence-based mental health programs are a significant priority that must be implemented within the time. The government, statutory and non statutory agencies have the dual responsibilities of identifying patients that need treatment and formulate measure to prevent the spread of mental ill health in the society. Nursing plays a central role in delivering health care, and so is critical to any nation's well-being. In the development of mental health systems, the assistance of community nurses can play an integral role in the preservation and protection of mental health of individuals. In this paper, we try to focus on the effects of Christian counseling in the mental health community.

Effects of Christian Counseling in the Mental Health Community

Introduction

Christianity is a one of the largest religions in the world, and a religion that many Americans affiliate themselves with, according to Gallup. Many people with mental health problems will first turn to their Mental Health Community and clergy persons for help before seeking outside psychological services (Ake, George, Horne, Sharon, 2003). The field of psychology recognizes and acknowledges the influence and role of religion on mental health issues. The psychological community has considered religion in recent years, and in 1992, the American Psychological Association (APA) declared religion to be a part of human diversity. Psychologists are ethically required to recognize diversity and culture; therefore, they are forced to recognize religion as part of their understanding of clients. The topic of my research is to find out the effects of Christian Counseling in the Mental Health Community.

Background

Mental health community clinics are a significant feature of such practices, whereby medication is given to patient with mild or acute mental ill health symptoms. Moreover, there is a need to consider intelligent interventions that evaluate and assess the quality of services in these community clinics. The organizations' programs, steps and strategies, need to be evaluated and monitored on a regular basis so as to maintain an acceptable quality.

Discussion

Psychological research from non-Christian resources about Christianity and psychotherapy is limited and, because of the many denominations of Christian religion, there are various definitions for what a Christian is in the literature. The definition of Christianity for this study is taken from Ball's research. He defined a Christian as a person who professes the belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ, or a religion based on the teachings of Jesus ...
