Introduction

Skills training discourse analysis enables students to develop analytical skills that will help them understand and complete class assignments, providing skills that will transfer to other classes and settings.

Part 1

In presenting the theoretical foundations and practical measures to implement such an approach, Flanigan and Menendez (2000 256) provides the necessary framework for teachers to adopt or adapt this approach. It guides her readers through all the steps to illustrate how the approach works. The ultimate goal is to ensure that second language writers to develop their analytical ability allow them to use their previous knowledge of the language, to learn the language and language use them to write in English effectively.

To make students think about language closely, I adapt the methods of critical discourse analysis, Norman Fairclough (Kinneavy 2000 60). Within that I provide in the assignment, students carry out a thorough analysis of the lyrics. As Ron Christiansen points out in discourse analysis, he provides his comments on student papers, but "not common in a lot of research and education, a thorough analysis is certainly a feature of research in CDA. In the future, I present the assignment, and then describe the elements of CDA, that an assignment basis. My goal in this part of the sequence of tasks was to emphasize to students the different ways that reproduce the meaning of texts, but also, indirectly, to assume that readers often disagree on the interpretation of texts.

Wennerström establishes the basis for this approach by reviewing the theoretical foundations for the genre and discourse analysis in Part 1, Theoretical Foundations, which consists of chapters 1, discourse analysis and Second Language Writing; Chapter 2, Genres Writing; and Chapter 3, the writing class. Part 2 contains practical guidance on the implementation of this analytical approach with the two general categories of writing. Chapter 4 deals with the record in everyday life, and in Chapter 5 discuss the Academic Writing.

The analysis of discourse defined as the true language as it occurs in the context, will enable students to adapt to different demands of language use, they will be faced with the function and succeed in different situations. Discourse analysis combines several aspects of language use includes lexical, grammatical, rhetorical, social and cultural contexts as it examines the natural language in the context of use. Consequently, discourse analysis can give students a means to understand cultural differences in the construction of communication in determining the language and structures used.

In Chapter 2, the genres of writing Wennerström presented two documents, recipes, and formal letters. They serve to introduce elements of the genre such as the structure and vocabulary that distinguish the genres. With this foundation, it begins to develop the importance of genre in society, education, and ESL Writing. Genre role in society involves the formation of linguistic communication to achieve a communicative purpose.
